〜 テレビのインタビューで、ビリージョエルは自分の曲で一番好きな曲を選んだ時、人気曲であるPiano ManでもHonestyでもなく、Scenes from an Italian Restaurantという1977年に出された名盤、The Stranger からの一曲を選んだ。 〜 *1
Scenes from an Italian Restaurant という曲は、私が（ソ連の国歌と同じくらい）愛を注ぐ一曲である。ひと昔前の表現を使えば、テープが擦り切れるほど。現代風なら、毎年Spotifyが今年のトップ曲に選曲してくれるほど聞く一曲である。Piano ManとThe Longest Timeしか知らなかった高校生の時に、ビリージョエルの曲を探っていて、イントロの切ないピアノを聴いたときからのファンである。
この曲は、NYのイタリアンレストランでの年配の男女の食事の会話から始まる。
